Innovations in building continue to reshape residential architecture. Advancements in building technology have also spurred a boom, with a surplus in cheap and readily available materials for home construction. Owing a home is the quintessential American dream. Millions of Americans envision the ideal home with a perfect white picket fence and a well-manicured lawn.
Since an early age, it’s been ingrained in us, without scruples, that home ownership is the foundation to a happy life. Prior to the 2008 financial crisis, a fervent rate of home construction yielded a renewed era in prosperity that has not been seen since post-war America. Despite the rapid development of affordable housing, America seems to have lost its way. Homes are no longer made as they once were. As we continue to rely on cheaper building materials, these homes have begun to wither in the face of duress.
Harmony Timberworks pays homage to forgotten era of home construction
America was once a frontier nation. Brave and stoic pioneers etched out a living with nothing more than an axe and a Bible. Before sawmills dotted the American landscape, early settlers were forced to rely on nothing more than their brains and brawn in constructing a suitable home. Early American homes were constructed almost entirely out of log and whatever else they could find for plaster, including manure for the creative and intrepid builders.
Finished lumber and wood products became more common the late 1800s. Improvements in brick and stone building methods also proved superior to earlier home construction practices. Many of these structures from this bygone era are still visible today. Their sturdy structures have stood the test of time, and in some cases have outlasted modern stick frame homes.
Timber Frame Structures are a tribute to rugged and creative individual mindset that once prevailed over America
Harmony Timberworks have embraced the DIY and rugged mindset of the early frontiersmen. We still cherish the value of solid wood construction that remains visible in our craft of manufacturing finely-crafted timber frame systems and structures.
Today, we celebrate the achievements of early builders from the near-forgotten log cabin era by continuing to champion elements of log cabin construction and traditional Timber Frame Trusses that once ruled America. Although our timber truss systems and homes are not direct carbon copies of early America log homes, our timber frame structures harken back to simpler times when homes were rugged and built to last.
At Harmony Timberworks, we don’t do cookie cutter or one-size-fits-all homes. We don’t assemble cheap, pre-packaged houses either. Each piece of your custom timber truss building project begins under our careful oversight and tutelage.
Our skilled team of designers use advanced computer-assisted drafted and manufacturing practices to render beautiful pieces of custom framed timber. While the technology of building homes has changed, our commitment to engineering beautiful customized timber frame structures remains steadfast.
