Structural Advantages of Wooden Roofs
If you’re going to be stuck in a classroom nine months out of the year, it might as well be nice to look at it, as well as safe. While students might roll their eyes at that remark, parents know the value of a good roof over their heads. Aging roof systems constitute a bulk of recurring costs and upkeep for most educational facilities nationwide. Facing a perpetually leaky roof and shortfall in funding, a Michigan school system was forced to take out a $6.1 million loan for 13 new and repaired school roofs. The new school in Valle Crucis won’t have that problem. Our timber frame roof systems are designed to handle everything that Mother Nature can throw its way. Wood will continue to be the unsung hero of any construction project.
Relying on the inherent strength of steel I-beam construction and the time-tested fortitude and versatility of wood, the new Valle Crucis school will be the envy of neighboring school districts. The timber frame roof will also blend seamlessly with the natural rural setting of the picturesque mountain community. Known for their longevity and ease of installation, timber framed roofs surpass the energy efficiency and sustainability of other building materials. Lastly, timber frame roofs also score high marks with contractors in the subjects of weather and impact resistance, as well as longevity. Furthermore, Harmony Timberworks has a number of projects completed for educational facilities, including common areas in university campuses, residence halls, and parks and recreation. Contact us to discuss your project with schools, universities, and higher education campus facilities. Heavy timber frame construction is the perfect choice to make a statement and to create lasting infrastructure for your institution.
Timber Frame Roofs in a Class of Their Own
Construction on the new Valle Crucis School broke ground on Nov. 2022 by H & M Constructors. A massive undertaking in scope and resources, the new school will cost approximately $50 million. Moreover, the school will become a cherished centerpiece in a school system that last broke ground on a new grade school in 2007. In addition to Mabel Elementary in 1995, Watauga High is the last new school built by the school system. As you can tell by the artistic rendering below, the timber frame roof system will become the most prominent of aesthetic feature of the new school. Furthermore, this is a load-bearing structural roofing system designed with heavy timber glulaminated beams. The timber frame roof system is finished with 2×6 tongue and groove roof decking for a beautiful interior wood-finished ceiling throughout the exposed interior areas integrated throughout the new facility.
