With the growing list of existential threats permeating every ‘safe place’ where we seek refuge and solace, many folks are beginning to second guess an affluent urban lifestyle.
The growing prevalence and speed of COVID-19 also have many of us reevaluating residing in densely populated areas. As a result, those with the necessary means are striking-out for a renewed sense of security in rural communities nationwide. Continued civil unrest has also become a catalyst for the relocation of thousands of city dwellers who wish to create a natural buffer between them and an increasing volatile society.
For centuries, the Appalachian Mountains have become a top tier destination for those seeking a slower-paced life. Today, tourists and others who admired the region from afar are making the jump to becoming full-time residents. It’s no surprise that many second homeowners and permanent residents choose building styles that are not in line with the same middle-class tastes common in suburban neighborhoods. Log cabin homes have become an enduring and timeless fixture in western North Carolina. Log cabin style homes blend seamlessly with the natural environment and are just as cozy, if not more so, than the cookie-cutter homes these new residents fled. Current mountain residents, who are solidifying their roots in the community, are also reaffirming their commitment to the region by designing and building the perfect mountain retreat.
Harmony’s timber truss system completes beautiful High Country cabin
Full-time and native residents alike have also taken a liking to this style of building. Regardless of taste or background, everyone seems to find common ground in agreeing that log cabin homes pair nicely with the Appalachian Mountains. Recently, we were contacted to help finish out a beautiful cabin home in neighboring Ashe County. The results were truly mesmerizing and captivating, as the trusses and timbers perfectly encapsulated the rural rustic feel of the region. This ambitious full frame is a combination of Douglas Fir and Alaskan Yellow Cedar timbers. Harmony Timberworks is also installing Select Spruce T&G roof decking and insulated nailbase panels.
